Transportation

Phoenix Airport. A link to the airport is here.  The airport has 3 terminals. There is a shuttle service between each terminal, and the drive takes 3 to 4 minutes.  There are no rental car counters in the terminals.  The rental car center just opened in January and it is located close to the airport on the opposite side of I-10.  They provide a shuttle service to the rental car center.  The airport authority does not advise walking between terminals, especially between 3 and 4 because a lot of construction is going on.

As a meeting place, we recommend using the Intercity Transportation Counter – there is one in each terminal.

Getting to the hotel:

The conference hotel is about  2 - 2.5 hours from Phoenix airport by car. More information about the hotel and other hotels in the area can be found here.

By shuttle:

There are 3 shuttle companies. All will drop you at the hotel, and will take you from the hotel.

·         Sedona-Phoenix shuttle has a fixed schedule. We negotiated the following rates: Roundtrip $70, one-way $40.  This is a SoCG rate, and don’t forget
to specify that you belong to this group. The time is 2.5 hours, unless most of the passengers are going to the Hilton. In this case the Hilton would be
the first stop of the shuttle in Sedona, and the trip time is close to 2 hours.
·         The Extra-Mile Express shuttle.  Roundtrip $98, trip length about 2 hours. They drive on demand and don't have a regular schedule. The Hilton recommends this
shuttle since it's faster.
·         ACE Xpress. Phone 928-649-2720. Supposed to be a bit faster but a bit more expensive.

By car:

Warning: The hotel is located in the Village of Oak Creek, which is about 20 minutes before the city Sedona. Make sure not to pass the village.

Here are driving directions. It is a nice drive, with several nice places to stop along the way, if you have some daytime left.   Another alternative is to continue al
ong Highway 89, toward the city Sedona. The part of the road-connecting Oak Creek Village (where the hotel is located) to Sedona is absolutely wonderful, especially during sunset.
You can also go on a wonderful hike for an hour or more and view the sunset. Just park your car (the parking area is on the road) and the nice part of the hike starts immediately.

A recommended links about Sedona are here.

Finding a ride from the airport to the hotel:

There is a carpool board that can help SoCG06 participants that are looking for a ride from Phoenix airport to the conference (lets denote them  “hitchhikers”) to contact
other participants that are planning to rent cars and are willing to offer rides (lets denote them “renters”).   This carpool board basically looks like this:

·         Click here to get to the carpool board itself. Since it contains personal data, it is password protected. The password will be send to you upon registration, or
by request from the organizers (socg06@cs.arizona.edu).

·         For car renters.  If you plan to rent a car, and are willing to take other participants with you, please email us at socg06carpool@cs.arizona.edu.
Your email should contain the time of your arrival, your airline carrier (we will find the terminal if you are not sure), your email address if
different than the one you sent the email from, the number of seats you can offer, and any specific comments.  The subject should be “SoCG06 carpool offer”.

·         For Hitchhikers: If you find a renter on the carpool board whose schedule meets yours, please drop him/her an email asking for a ride.
The price of the gas for a midsize car, for the way from Phoenix to the hotel, is about $15, so it is not unreasonable to offer help. We recommend that
you will set a meeting time with the renter at the Intercity Transportation Counter of one specific terminal (there is such a counter at every terminal).

·         Disclaimer: We (the conference organizers) hold absolutely no responsibility for problems caused by miscommunications. In plain English, it means that if the
renter failed to show up on time, or the hitchhiker was using too many F-words, we cannot be responsible for it.  Also, we cannot do anything to help you find a ride,
and there is no need to inform us with whom you plan to ride.

Having said that, if you find yourself stuck in the airport without a ride, we will try to help as much as we can. Feel free to call Alon at 520-360 6321 in this case.
