that we should be missing are your final two section attendance tics

sooner rather than later.
- 2008/05/03 4:55 p.m.: I've linked to the class web page the
complete collection of definitions that are "fair game" for the final.
I won't bother to make printed copies of that for you; this collection
is the union of the collections for the first three exams (for which you
already have handouts), plus just a few more.

- 2008/04/28 Noon: At this point of the semester, students really
start looking carefully at their class averages, and then usually
notice that there are very few students who currently have an 'A' average
in the class. A significant cause of artificially low averages
at this point is the inclusion of all
of the quiz scores. Remember, at the end of the term, we'll be including
only your best 8 quiz scores of the 12 or so quizzes we have. With all
of the quizzes included in the calculation, it's not hard to get a class
average that is artificially low.
For example, consider the student with the highest score on Exam #3.
That student is missing three quizzes, and with each of those having a
weight of 2, the class average is low by about 6%. That is, that student's
average is really more like 92% than the 86% shown.
And, also remember that your lowest midterm score can be replaced by your
final exam score, assuming that doing so helps your average. If your
exam scores have been pretty consistent, this policy isn't likely to make
a huge difference in your grade. However, if you have one score that's
much lower than the other two, and you do well on the final, this policy
can make a significant difference.
- 2008/04/28 11:50am: I see that I forgot to post the Exam #3
details ... and no one complained (or even noticed?). I'm so sad...
