Required Textbook: None! But ...
Recommended Books:
- Linux in a Nutshell, 6/e, Siever et. al., O'Reilly Media, 2009. Connected to a UA network? Then you can access a free online version here! This is a good basic reference for programmers working on Linux systems. Its value to us is in its overviews of shell commands and shell programming.
- C Programming: A Modern Approach, K. N. King, W. W. Norton, 2008. This is a really good text for learning C, plus it's a good reference for the language.

Program #1 Due: 09/01
- testMyCode.sh -- A script to help you test your Prog1c.java program. Note that after saving it to your CS account, you'll have to give it execute permission. Here's the command: chmod u+x testMyCode.sh (Yes, we'll be talking about file permissions soon, and shell-scripting thereafter.)
- q3-cases -- The file of command line arguments used by testMyCode.sh. Note that you can add your own! Trade with your friends! Collect all the colors! :-)
Program #2 Due: 09/08. In case you missed class: The C compiler we're using is gcc, which names the resulting executable a.out by default.

- The wormdemo executable should run on any of the lab computers, including lectura.
- curses_sample.c is a (very!) simple demo of the curses package (and my equally-simple interf.o curses routine interface). Here's a makefile for the demo. Note that the name is 'makefile.cs', so you'll need to rename it or use the -f flag to make.

- Are you a standards person? Then the ISO/IEC 9899:1999 standard document is for you! If you have $366. If you don't, and the 1997 committee draft version will suit you, you can have that for free.
- The GNU C Reference Manual
- Recommended C Style and Coding Standards. This is an updated version of the classic Indian Hill C Style and Coding Standards paper. I don't agree with everything it suggests, but it's still a good reference.
- Henry Spencer's classic Ten Commandments for C programmers. Old, but still amusing and relevant. Here's an annotated HTML version, if you like your commandments with commentary.
- C Operator Precedence and Associativity Table.
