Information on Lectura and Voltron

Lectura (lec) is the main instructional server in the department. It has two dual core, 64 bit AMD Opteron 275 processors (total of four processing cores) and 16GB of main memory. The processors operate at 1.8 GHz, and each has a 1024KB cache. The cache line size is 64 bytes.

Voltron (vol) is used mostly just by this class. It has four 64 bit AMD Opteron 848 processors and 4GB of main memory. The processors operate at 2.2 GHz, and each has a 1024KB cache. The cache line size is 64 bytes.

Lectura runs Fedora 9 Linux and Voltron runs Fedora 5 Linux. Programs you develop for this class should run on both machines, but there may be some differences due to the difference in versions of the operating system. With luck, you will be able to develop programs on Lectura and run them on Voltron, but be aware that you may need to recompile on Voltron.

You can reach Voltron by ssh from other departmental machines. It is not directly accessible from off-campus, but you can first log into Lectura and then ssh from there to Voltron.
