General
Course-related announcements will be made in class and/or posted on the
class newsgroup, cs.course453.
Information about departmental newsgroups is available
here.
It is your responsibility to monitor newsgroup postings and to find out
about any classroom announcements in a timely manner.
Newsgroup Policies
The newsgroup for announcements and discussions relating to CSc 453 is
cs.course453.
General departmental policies on newsgroups are available
here.
In addition, the following policies apply specifically to this newsgroup:
-
This newsgroup is intended only for discussions and
announcements related to CSc 453. Material not relating to this course
should be posted elsewhere.
-
Material posted to the newsgroup is accessible to everyone in the class, and
therefore is subject to the same restrictions as "collaboration"
(see Class Policies).
In particular, be careful about posting code examples to the newsgroup, or
discussing implementational details of assignments.
Email vs. Newsgroup
Newsgroup postings are public, but people may
read postings only once or twice a day; by contrast, email is private but
is typically read (at least) several times a day.
Issues that require quick response from the instructor and/or a TA (e.g.,
issues relating to deadlines), or which are not appropriate to disseminate publicly
(e.g., implementation details of your project) are therefore best handled by email to the
instructor or the TA.
Dually, topics that are not deadline-driven, and which may benefit from
broader discussion (e.g., discussion or clarification of a program
specification), are appropriate for newsgroup postings.
