Abstract

In the field of natural language parsing, there has been a mismatch between engineering solutions and linguistic theory.  Systems incorporating linguistic theories have to meet certain challenges and benchmarks generally accepted by the engineering community if they are to find wide application. In this talk, I discuss prior and current work, as well as prospects for an implemented parsing system built around linguistic principles to bridge this engineering divide.
