Reading Department Email Remotely
Email to cs.arizona.edu addresses for current CS students, faculty, and staff is redirected to email.arizona.edu mailboxes. CS email for alumni is forwarded to the address they choose via the On-Line Services page.
For information on accessing email on the email.arizona.edu systems, see http://ccit.web.arizona.edu/index.php?id=email. This area includes instructions on setting up various email clients with IMAP or POP.
To see a list of helpful hints that previous CS email readers have figured out about setting up Webmail and Thunderbird, see the FAQ article What are some things to know about reading email at email.arizona.edu?.
You can set up your email client to point to your CS home directory. This allows access to any old CS email files and folders (created prior to the changeover to UITS email) as well as allowing new ones to be created. This can be useful for filing and organizing your email. Thunderbird and Pine are the email clients supported by Lab Staff. See Using Thunderbird to Access CS Email Folders or Department Pine E-mail Settings for details.
Email Backup / Restore
Email in your INBOX is stored (by default) on the email.arizona.edu server. Other folders, such as Trash and Sent, may also exist on the email.arizona.edu server. Snapshots of mailboxes are taken every 4 hours and are retained for 7 days. See http://ccit.web.arizona.edu/index.php?id=657#c6258 for more information.
Any email files/folders in your CS home directory are backed up via the normal backup mechanisms used for all CS accounts. If you do not want your email backed up, don't store email in your home directory.
