Computer Science ID (CSID)

Faculty and Staff generation of CSID numbers

There are three local utilities available for Faculty and TA's to generate or view the Computer Science ID (CSID); cs_request, csid, and the web-based, http://www.cs.arizona.edu/people/apply/services.html. The most commonly used, cs_request, is found on lectura.

A help section appears if the utility is run with no options:

/usr/local/bin/cs_request

The cs_request utility accesses a Computer Science Department internal database that is generated by users who run the apply process to create or update their accounts. This apply process is also available via the web at:

http://www.cs.arizona.edu/~apply

The cs_request utility generates a list of all students in a particular Computer Science class and has the option of listing the last 6-digits of each student's CSID together with their full name and CS username. If for some reason a faculty member wishes to generate the full 9-digit CSID of a single student then they can do this on lectura with a command of the form:

/usr/local/bin/csid 123456789

where 123456789 is a current 9-character UofA Student ID (a capital S followed by 8-digits for most new students).

A web-based version of CSID is available from:

http://www.cs.arizona.edu/people/apply/services.html.

Student generation of CSID numbers

An individual student can determine their own CSID in either of two ways: 1) by logging onto lectura.cs.arizona.edu as the user csid with a password of CSID or 2) by using the web version available at

http://www.cs.arizona.edu/people/apply/services.html.

You will be prompted for their University of Arizona Student ID and in return receive a 9-digit number. The applicable part of this number, that used for grade posting , are the last six digits.

Example:
ssh lectura.cs.arizona.edu -l csid
password: CSID

Note that the above password is capitalized.
