The Department of Computer Science offers a dynamic program of graduate study that integrates quality research and teaching. The Department has been ranked best of its size among public universities by the National Research Council, and has a distinguished record of influential software distribution. Graduates include researchers at AT&T Labs, HP Labs, and IBM Almaden, and faculty at Davis, Rice, and Virginia. Current areas of research include algorithms, architecture, bioinformatics, compilers, databases, distributed systems, embedded systems, networks, operating systems, security, software engineering, and visualization.

Funding Opportunities

Doctoral students are funded for the duration of their program of study and we are proud that all of our current Ph.D. students are funded. Funding opportunities for doctoral applicants include GAANN, IGERT, College of Science, and Graduate College Fellowships and teaching and research assistantships. All fellowships and assistantships are awarded with competitive stipends and tuition and registration waivers.
