Admissions Checklist

The following is a list of the various forms and information that must be received by the Graduate College and The Department of Computer Science to complete an application for admission to the Graduate Program. An application will not be evaluated for admission until all required materials have been received, and have met the deadlines. You may download the Department and University applications and mail the completed materials back to the department. Information about requirements and course prerequisites can be found by visiting these links. In fairness to you and to all other applicants, we cannot respond to any requests for a pre-evaluation of your credentials, your chances of admission, or your chances of receiving financial support.

Checklist for Applying

Send the following to the Department of Computer Science:

Official Transcripts: one from each University attended.
Copy of GRE score: General
Copy of valid TOEFL score:
Letters of Recommendation: at least two - three are preferred.
Statement of Purpose: A one page discussion of why you want to go to graduate school in computer science, what specific areas of computer science most interest you, why you are interested in the University of Arizona, and what you plan to do once you have completed your graduate degree.

TOEFL score: International applicants only (must be dated no more than 2 years before the applying semester)

Deadlines

Applications are accepted for fall and spring semesters, though doctoral students are admitted for the spring semester only under extenuating circumstances. All application materials must be received by the deadlines below.

Letters of Recommendation

Please follow the directions on the Recommendation Form, to insure proper receipt of this confidential letter from each of your recommenders. Each writer also has the option of sending his/her letter directly to this department.

Test Scores

For the purpose of application evaluation, we will accept copies of your GRE and TOEFL scores. However, upon a favorable recommendation for admission, you will be required to have originals sent from ETS.

Statement of Purpose

This is your opportunity to tell us about you and why you would make an excellent addition to our program. Please write a one page summary of why you would like to attend graduate school in our department and what areas of computer science you are specifically interested in studying. If you have research experience or published papers please include those details.

Transcripts

An official transcript is one that has been officially issued by an institution and received in an envelope sealed by the issuing institution. The transcript will contain the official school seal or stamp and the signature of the Registrar. You are required to submit one separate official transcript from each college or university you have previously attended or are currently attending. Transfer credits indicated on another school's transcript are not acceptable in lieu of submitting the original institution record for the coursework.

If the issuing institution will not release your official transcript to you, request that it be sent directly to this department, and indicate this on your 'Checklist'.
