Research My research interests focus on the design and analysis of high performance computer systems including the design of optimized operating systems and specialized hardware. The main goal of my research is integration of both hardware and software mechanisms for overall improvement in system performance. My research is driven by real world performance bottlenecks that up to this point required ongoing solutions by programmers. My goal is to provide mechanisms in hardware and operating systems to address the bottlenecks and reduce the programming effort imposed on the programmers. My research explores a novel alternative to programmer inserted hints in the I/O and power management for the operating systems. The key idea is that the instructions within the application correlate to the application’s I/O behavior. I apply instruction-based prediction to improve energy management and file cache management in the operating systems. Previously, I have explored instruction based prediction and speculation in multiprocessor systems. Please look at the DREAM project fro more details. |
