Finding a File By Name and Deleting It
Copyright 1996 by Todd A. Proebsting
To find and delete a file on Windows95 the following should work:
- Click on the "Start" button on the bottom left of your screen, which
should create a new menu above it.
- On the new menu, put your mouse over "Find", which should cause a new
menu to pop up to the right.
- Move the mouse vertically to the new menu and click on "Files or Folders",
which will cause a window to appear.
- The new window will have "tabs" just below the menu buttons, one of which
is titled "Name and Location." If this tab is ont on top, click on it.
(It will do no harm to click on it if it is already on top.)
- Select the "Named" input box and type in the file name.
- If the "Look in" box does not say "C:" (or whatever drive you want), select
the appropriate drive. Selecting the appropriate drive can be done in
two different ways:
- Select the box and type in the "C:", or
- Click on the down arrow on the right of the box and then click on
the appropriate drive.
- Click on "Find Now."
- If file(s) with that name were found, they will appear below that window
with some extra info.
- To delete a found file, simply click on the file name in the list below
to select it. Then, click on the "File" menu. Inside that menu, click
on "Delete." Click on "Yes" to confirm.
