Software Distribution

We currently distribute the x-kernel running on a variety of different platforms, as well as a wide collection of network protocols and other related software. Press here to access the ftp directory containing all NSRG distributed software.

Currently, this directory includes the following:

• usc2.1.tar.Z: (240KB compressed, 615KB uncompressed) contains version 2.1 of the universal stub compiler (USC) and the inference tool USIT. USC/USIT have been tested on the following platforms:
  • DEC Alpha running OSF/1 v3.2,
  • HP 700 running HP-UX 9.01,
  • IBM PowerPC running AIX 3.2,
  • Linux v1.3.30 system (Slackware 2.3.0),
  • SGI running Irix 5.2,
  • Sun SPARC running either SunOS 4.1 or Solaris 2.3.

• xkernel.tar.Z: (4MB compressed, 10MB uncompressed) contains a release of Version 3.2 of the x-kernel. You can read the programmer's manual by pressing here. This version of the x-kernel runs as a task on top of the Mach 3.0 microkernel, as a user process on top of SunOS 4.1, and inside the Mach 3.0 microkernel (MK 82 on DS5000 and Intel 486).

• xkernel-alpha.tar.Z: (2MB compressed, 4MB uncompressed) contains a release of Version 3.2 of the
  x-kernel running standalone on Alpha-based workstations (DEC 3000/400 and 600).

• new-protocols: is a directory that contains protocol implementations that have been released since the main distribution was prepared. Let us know about protocols you've implemented in the x-kernel, and we'll include them in this directory.

• README.v3.2: contains release notes for Version 3.2 of the
  x-kernel.

• Protocols for cryptographic encapsulation and key management are available for researchers within the US. Send mail to xksecure@cs.arizona.edu to request more information.
