Opportunities for Pay, Credit, Preceptor, Study related to 24-Hour Knowledge Factory and Outsourcing at Nexus for Entrepreneurship and Technology (NEXT) Initiative

OPEN MEETING ON THURSDAY,  August 20 at 10:30 AM and MONDAY, AUGUST 24 at NOON in Suite 417, McClelland Hall
YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS AND ACQUAINTANCES ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND THIS SESSION:
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ON HOW TO JOIN THE TEAM

This is an interdisciplinary group, and previous members of this initiative have been post-docs, doctoral, masters, honors, and undergrad students from diverse backgrounds, including management, science, engineering, social and behavioral science, and medicine. Relevant details and publications about previous and current efforts can be accessed via:
<https://www.email.arizona.edu/horde/services/go.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fnext.eller.arizona.edu%2Fprojects%2F24HrKF%2F>http://next.eller.arizona.edu/projects/24HrKF/

We are always looking for bright talented individuals at all levels to join the group.

 Paid Positions:

Preference is given to the following groups of students:
·         Students who are currently enrolled, or have been accepted, in any doctoral program at the University of Arizona. Such students should write to Professor Gupta at gupta@arizona.edu enclosing their resume and indicating preferred area of research for their dissertations.

·         Students who have attended any of the courses listed at <https://www.email.arizona.edu/horde/services/go.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fnext.eller.arizona.edu%2Fcourses%2F>http://next.eller.arizona.edu/courses/

Please note that substantial work has been performed by previous members of this group and that the learning curve is substantial. Students who have not done any of the courses listed at the above URL spend significant time in understanding prior work. Paid appointments for “new” members of the group are limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week for students who are registered for 6 or fewer units, and 10 hours per week for students who have registered for 12 or fewer units. These limits are waived for students who have attended any of the relevant courses.

If you register for one of these courses, you will greatly enhance the prospects for securing an RA appointment in future semesters.

Since the number of masters’ students who apply for paid slots is large, a venture-capitalist approach is used to make selections. Students in this category should read the material at the above URLs and then write a proposal (one-half to one page long) that describes what they propose to do as an RA over a 4-month period, including key tasks and milestones.  Funding decisions will be made based on the quality of the idea proposed and its relevance to the overall endeavor.

 Non-paid Positions:

The threshold for joining the group in a non-paid position is lower. You can join the group in various capacities, including independent study. Persons who do not possess current affiliation with the University of Arizona are usually considered in this category.

Information Needed from All Applicants (via email to gupta@arizona.edu)
1. Your resume.
2. Number of courses that you will be doing in the semester, along with the times that they meet.
3. Details of other significant commitments for the semester, such as part-time job.
4. Likely date of completion of studies at U of A.
5. Titles of journal/conference/working paper(s) written by you, if any.

I appreciate your interest in our activities.

Sincerely,

Amar Gupta
