We have 1 or 2 openings in the AI Lab here in the MIS Department for a highly skilled research assistants with a strong technical background to help us with our grant funded projects.

The Artificial Intelligence Lab, located in the Management Information Systems Dept. in Eller College, seeks a skilled technical research assistant to help with various programming, coding, and database related projects.  The selected candidate will work with the Lab’s PhD students and staff member to support research in a variety of projects. REQUIRED SKILLS

1. Technical skills

- Successful candidate should be very familiar with web development.  Required skills include HTML, JSP, AJAX, JAVA, Applet, and database connection with JDBC (My SQL, MS SQL server et. al.). Knowledge on how to integrate third-party APIs. (Experience with third party software packages for data mining, text mining and visualization is a big plus.)

- The following basic skills are expected in order to be competent in project development: knowing how to pass parameters between pages, how to integrate java classes into jsp pages (including third-party APIs), and dealing with data cleaning, transferring within database.

2. Teamwork and cooperation

- Ability to handle individually delegated tasks responsibly as well as work cooperatively with other members to achieve project goals.

- Ability to learn quickly from a variety of sources including through online documents, etc.

- Willingness and ability to meet rapid project deadlines.

DESIRED SKILLS

These skills are not required but are a plus for job functioning:

- Familiarity with or previous use of Regular Expressions

- Previous experience with building user interfaces for java applications

- Working knowledge of Perl/Python

- Experience in dealing with large amounts of data, creating index etc. (familiarity with multi-threaded program development is a plus)
