Prospective Transfer Students

Welcome to the Department of Computer Science at the University of Arizona!

Transferring to a new school can be confusing and complicated.  In order to make this process as smooth as possible, it is highly recommended that you talk with the pre-Computer Science advisor, Rebecca Mitchell, as soon as you can.  She will be able to advise you on which courses you can take at your current school and what you should wait to take at the UA.  This simple step may help you avoid taking courses that you do not need or spending excess semesters in school, trying to catch up on coursework.

Speaking with an advisor early in your academic career greatly enhances your ability to plan an efficient course plan.  Do not wait until the semester before your intended transfer to contact an advisor!  If you are in the Tucson area, you can call 520-621-4632 to schedule an advising appointment.  If you are not in Tucson, you can contact Rebecca Mitchell via email at rmitch@cs.arizona.edu .

Transferring from an Arizona college

If you are currently attending a community college or university in the state of Arizona, there are several online resources that may be particularly useful to you as you plan for your transfer to the University of Arizona.  The Arizona State Course Equivalency Guide allows you to see how the courses you are completing at your current school will transfer to the UA.  You can also view Arizona Community College Transfer Guides for recommended academic plans according to major.  These online tools should be used in consultation with a UA advisor.

If you are transferring from an Arizona Community College, you may have been advised to complete the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) at your current school.  While completion of the AGEC can be a wise plan for some students, it is often not in a student's best interest to do so.  Contact the pre-Computer Science advisor to develop a plan that is the best fit for your specific situation.  AGEC completion is NOT required prior to transferring to the UA.
