AnimalWatch V.I.
Students with visual impairments (VI) are under-represented in science and engineering. One reason is that students with VI face many challenges in learning mathematics.
In the AW-VI project, we are adapting the AnimalWatch tutoring system so that it can be used by students who are blind. Text-to-speech technology is used to make the word problems available in audio format. Each word problem has audio-based hints to help the student identify the correct math operation and find the right solution strategy.
The project is supported by a research grant from the National Science Foundation (HRD 0725917/0940201).
