What is a Computer Science Career Mentor?
Career Mentors are current undergraduate Computer Science students who offer support and guidance to Computer Science pre-major and major students. Mentors are leaders and role models who provide encouragement and assistance with establishing career goals and making effective career decisions. Mentors foster connection and engagement outside of the classroom while enhancing student involvement.
Please note that mentors are not academic advisors or tutors, but mentors do provide the following:

Mentors provide career feedback through resume reviews and mock interviews.

Mentors can assist you in creating a resume from scratch or improve the resume you already have created.

Mentors give students the opportunity to make connections and get to know others in the department outside the classroom through one-on-one meetings.

Mentors promote involvement among Computer Science students and make students feel welcome and connected.

Mentors assist in providing a network of career support for incoming and current students.

Mentors provide more information about university and department resources for career development.
Characteristics of a Career Mentor

Approachable: Mentors are available and interested in what you have to say. Feel free to share as much or little information with them based on your comfort level. Mentors care about you and are here for you.

Sharing: Mentors are open to sharing their career experiences with you. They can share their experiences, feelings, observations and knowledge openly. They will often encourage you to try new things or take advantage of different opportunities aimed at improving career development.

Keeps Confidentiality: Mentors will honor sensitive personal or professional information that you share.

Open: Mentors encourage regular and meaningful contact.

Maintains Trust: Mentors will ensure that you feel free to discuss issues without fear of judgement.

Mentor Lounge and Office Hours
The mentor lounge is a space where the mentors hold their office hours and one-on-one meetings. Any CS student is welcome to stop by the lounge at any time to hang out, talk, and receive information about career resources ! The lounge is located in the Gould-Simpson building, room 903.
- Resume Review Hours (walk-in basis):
- Mondays: 9AM - 11AM & 1PM - 5PM
- Wednesdays: 10AM - 4PM

- Fridays: 10AM - 4PM
- All mock interviews will be held in Gould-Simpson 930A.
- Walk-in career mentoring (no need to schedule an appointment, just stop by to have your questions answered):
- Monday: 9AM - 11AM & 1PM - 5PM
- Tuesday: 9:15AM - 12:30PM & 1:30PM - 5PM
- Wednesday: 10AM - 5PM

- Friday: 10AM - 4PM

Are you interested in being a career mentor? If so, apply.
- Mentors must be available for 5-10 hours per week and should be available to host events throughout the semester.
- Mentors can receive credit or pay. Up to 10 hours of work each week are available.
- Mentors must have a 2.4 cumulative and Major GPA.
- Mentors must have completed CSC 110 and CSC 120.
