Chinmai Basavaraj is a Ph.D. student studying Computer vision and Machine Learning under the guidance of Professor Kobus Barnard. Before joining the University of Arizona, Chinmai worked as a systems engineer in India for 3 years supporting software development. To further his knowledge in computer science, he completed a master's degree in Computer Science at the Indiana State University. His work experience includes being a web developer and part-time faculty in the Computer Science department at Indiana State University.
My main research focus is on studying the structure and science behind Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and application of machine learning and deep learning techniques to fMRI data.
What long-term project do you want to work on?
I wish to continue working on the application of deep learning to neuroimaging data.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Learning something new every day! My advisor is very encouraging and supportive. It makes the process of learning fun and exciting. I have been involved in many innovative research projects and its a privilege to be a part of the team.
What are your career goals
I am very passionate about teaching and research. I would like to get into academia.
Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I won men's singles at Arizona Badminton Championships in 2017. In my spare time, I try to catch up with my responsibilities as a president at the University of Arizona Badminton Club. I am very passionate about badminton! In fact, I play most racquet sports and I have a pretty good racket collection.
