I grew up in on the central west coast of India, in a place called Mumbai. Growing up I was rather interested in arts and loved to draw, always believed I would pursue a carrier in something creative. However I got introduced to computers at a fairly young age and discovered the joy of programming them. The rest as they say his history. My journey in computer since / engineering has taken me through mobile platforms all the way up to satellites, and it has been an exciting one. As I near the end of my PhD., I look back and wonder, what if I never wrote the first "hello world" in QBASIC, would things turn out to be different .... I rather not think about it !
I am currently a 6th year PhD. student at University of Arizona, Department of Computer Science. Over the course of 6 years my research has focused on various different topics ranging from security to operating systems. My primarily focus has been on energy optimization for mobile operating systems, medical devices and cellular radios. I have also conducted research in the field of medical imaging, cardiac anomaly detection and sensor based gesture detection. My primary interests of research are Operating Systems, Energy Optimization of mobile devices, Computer Networks and applications of computer science in the field of medicine. In the past I have also gained experience in product design, being instrumental from the inception stage to the prototyping stage.
What long-term project do you want to work on?
I would eventually like to use computer science in the filed of medicine, be it predicting cardiac conditions or improving the current fragmented nature of Electronic Medical Records. I believe doing so is one of the few ways to directly benefit and touch the lives of many people, through the medium of computer science and technology.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The challenge and uncertainty of not knowing the outcome of the research problem. The fact that I get to work on something totally new. Something, no one else has worked on before.
What are your career goals
I would eventually like to be responsible for innovative product design and research.
Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I can drink a glass of water up side down, yes don't try that at home please!
