Don Waugaman

I am a graduate student currently in transition back to the world of industry (check my resume if you are interested) and continuing some wrapup work on research into improving execution of distributed systems by reducing message passing volume. I am a member of ACM.

I graduated from Georgia Tech in 1991 with a Bachelors of Computer Engineering degree. While working for Intel from 1991 to 1993, I also attended classes in the Oregon Graduate Institute's Computer Science and Engineering department. I have been at the University of Arizona since the fall of 1993.

When I'm not in the office, I'm busy being married to my wonderful wife Janet. A bad back has slowed me some athletically, but I still try to run from time to time, and I have played such diverse sports as tennis, softball (as a regular left fielder for the perennial E-league Geek Gods), soccer, racquetball, ultimate, volleyball, and even flag football (the last as a young and foolish undergrad). Rumors of my bowling have been greatly exaggerated. I bike to school on a daily basis, and occasionally pedal-push for fun, but I've never done any competitive racing. I try to hike in the mountains around Tucson on a regular basis when not nursing injuries from my other athletic pursuits.

Some of my more sedentary endeavors include reading and recreational use of my Linux PC at home. My reading tastes usually run to science fiction and military history (particularly the Civil War era). I enjoy wargaming though I haven't done much of late. Naturally, I'd like to tie these three interests together and write the definitive Civil War strategic simulation on Linux. I'm also a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) here in Tucson, and involved in the local Graduate Christian Fellowship group. When spectating at pro sports events (a rare occurrence here in the Arizona desert, and we don't have cable), I'll usually root for the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles(or whoever's playing the Cowboys and Yankees, respectively).

That's all for now..... I'll be setting up some links later!!
