Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) threads through all aspects of the Department of Computer Science at University of Arizona (UACS). The UACS community of students, staff, and faculty is diverse, and thus the environment we build must recognize and support the unique backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of all of its members. As a public university and an Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), we share common values with the College of Science and University of Arizona.
Specifically, we are committed to embrace, celebrate, and respect our differences. All members of UACS share this obligation.
We value equity for all, and we will work together to ensure that our actions will support the well-being of each other. This commitment will ensure that our educational and research missions will achieve their full potential while cultivating an inclusive environment.
This website serves many aspects of making good on our commitment. As a focal point for DEI efforts, we will use it to educate and inform our community, and we seek to offer opportunities to help and be helped. We will recognize when there is room for improvement and work to address it. Our DEI initiatives will evolve to meet both the short and long term goals of UACS, and this evolution is also reflected in our department's NSF Broadening Participation Plan.
